I wanted to touch base with you and let you know that the Marines and I have received the care packages (Operation Shoebox). My guys opened them right away. I am truly grateful for the kindness shown by all involved and especially for the young men on the team that took time to put them together.

We are in the middle of nowhere and our internet/communications on the unclassified systems normally meltdown and only work for around 4 hours. This as well as our operational tempo has delayed our response and gratitude to those who donated.

I received a disposable camera from my parents in which I used to take some pictures of myself and my Marines opening the boxes. We also raised three American Flags during morning colors that includes a certificate of appreciation. One is for you, the other for Mrs. Thomas and the other flag is designated for the locker room or whom you see fit to receive. Whomever you have in mind please let me know and we’ll include in the certificate.

Operational tempo is very high at the moment. I am stationed at Forward Operating Base Delaram, Afghanistan. The weather is unpredictable, average temperature around 100, and absolutely nothing green or water to be seen. There are many times I refer back to playing football and the importance of discipline, loyalty, and courage. There is no room for jumping offsides here. I have lost Marines already and we will soon be punching out on mission into the mountains next week. I will do my best to get our thanks back home to you as soon as possible. Hopefully before graduation.
